Masterclass
These workshops are intended for percussion students from music schools, and high music education schools in France and abroad. Since their creation, the Percussions Claviers de Lyon have transcribed, arranged for their original formation works by Ravel, Debussy, Prokoviev, Milhaud, Villa-Lobos, Satie, Hisaishi… Today, they still like to share this repertoire, built up over several years, with young musicians or students. This is an opportunity for them to perform with the ensemble during a concert. Arrangements for large groups of up to 20 percussionists are offered.
Soundpainting
This workshop is an experiment in improvised music around Soundpainting. The participants come from a percussion class or another class (singing, modern music, etc.) play their instruments. The improvisations are directed by the facilitator using Soundpainting, a specific language that uses gestures to codify the music and thus compose in real time. It is used to guide the group’s improvisations, to give a form of composition in real time, while using musical elements from a work chosen beforehand. Proposed in the form of a course, these workshops include an introduction to Soundpainting, an approach to individual and collective improvisation to end up with a performance.
Composition classes
For several years now, the Percussions Claviers de Lyon have been offering students in composition classes the opportunity to write a miniature for the group. This piece is performed during a concert, and recorded under professional conditions. The students work with the ensemble beforehand, exchanging ideas with the musicians on arrangements and the choice of sticks offered are an opportunity for them to experience with professionals, and also to gather the reactions of a well-informed the reactions of an informed public.
Les Rêves de Satie | Satie’s dreams
On the occasion of their American Tour in October 2019, the Percussions Claviers de Lyon have met 100 pupils of the Lycée Français de New York. The students used everyday objects (brooms, newspapers, cutlery, balloons…) and their own musical instruments to create an original score inspired of Erik Satie’s music: Gnossiennes, and Sport et Divertissement. This rhythmic and offbeat escapade was followed by a concert with the five percussionists on the music of Erik Satie.
